Media Asset Management & Transcoding Engineer


This person is a key member of the file delivery team. Responsible for the encoding and delivery of long-form media to television stations around the world. The ideal candidate will have a background in broadcast video and
Post production with experience in IT systems support, networking, enterprise-level video encoding and NLE systems. The position will help to maintain the workflows, hardware and software of our broadcast encoding and file delivery service. The primary responsibilities of this position are to maintain current video transcoding workflows and underlying systems while supporting a wide variety of internal and externally facing platforms. The candidate will be tasked with workflow design and system maintenance of both software and hardware for the transcoding farm.

Supervisor: Director of Broadcast and Production Engineering



  • Responsible for leading overall strategy, implementation and workflow of the Media Data Asset Management system.
  • Responsible for assigning appropriate metadata methodology for assets to ensure accurate rights management.
  • Manages the MAM system and facilitates the uploading of assets as well as maintaining and upgrading the system.
  • Managing the Cantemo Portal MAM system, a dynamic media asset management system and other systems.
  • Developing training and educational materials for client teams on MAM system, filing protocols, rights management, etc.
  • Developing and implementing facility wide processes for media Asset Management.
  • Facilitates retrieval of previously catalogued images/shoots.
  • Advises and trains on when and how to archive assets as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate procedures and records for the system.
  • Partners with client teams, accounting, IT and legal on image, font, video and music acquisitions.
  • Keeps informed of latest Media Asset Management technology trends and innovations.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, in a team environment, efficiently and be self motivated.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, identify priorities and organize efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Work with production personnel to design workflows utilizing existing and new equipment.
  • Design/build/maintain automated workflows to efficiently encode large volumes of deliverables for broadcast.
  • Prepare, execute, and confirm completion of many video file encoding/compression tasks per day.
  • Track video encoding and file delivery status among different software applications/systems.
  • Primary troubleshooting of encoding and file delivery software and servers.
  • Recommend content/workflow/quality process improvements as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Experience with software installation, configuration, support, command line, ports, firewalls, telnet, FTP, VPN and etc.
  • Experience in thinking critically about systems and workflow, and identifying needs for development.
  • Must be willing to work holiday, weekends or off days on short notice.
  • Strong knowledge of encoding standards/elements (codecs, wrappers, GOP structure, aspect ratio, profiles, bitrates, etc.)
  • Experience with Telestream Vantage, Episode Engine, ffmpeg and/or Rhozet Carbon Coder
  • Experience in Television/Broadcast Engineering
  • Extensive knowledge is required for Windows, Mac OS and experience with software installation, configuration, support, command line and etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in thinking critically about systems and workflow, and identifying needs for development.
  • Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with desire for continuous improvement.



  • BA degree required or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 4 years experience in related
