Database Administrator

Location: Houston, TX




Lakewood Church is looking for a passionate professional to serve as the Database Administrator (DBA) in this large and fast-paced media-ministry and mega-church. Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, the DBA will be an integral part of the Church’s enterprise-class database systems ensuring the performance, robustness, scalability and integrity of multiple databases across multiple servers. This role will include day to day function of the Church’s database, involvement in the planning and development of data structures, and troubleshooting any issues on behalf of other support administrators, developers and users.



  • With oversight and direction from the IT Director and the Chief Operating Officer, responsible for the design, installation, and configuration of database systems.
  • Actively monitoring existing database systems to ensure optimal performance. Responding to errors, latency, or other performance issues as they arise.
  • Ensuring all backup/recovery efforts at the database layer remain consistent with the requirements of the organization.
  • Monitoring and performing optimization tweaks on development, test, and production enterprise-class database systems.
  • Responsible for the design and creation of data structures, upkeep of needed indices and refresh of the data warehouse used for running reports from the CRM via Change Data Capture (CDC), SSIS packages, and PowerBI data packs.
  • Data migration/integration.
  • Creating Indices, Clusters, Snapshots, Views, and other database objects, as well as, managing Rollback Segments, Data File Size, and all the other aspects related to the performance tuning of databases.
  • Writing code for update queries, update data dictionaries as new fields are added to and integrated into the database, and documenting change in data correction logs identifying the date the correction was performed and note how it changed the system; i.e. tables and fields affected, submission affected, error code affected, and other pertinent metadata.
  • Developing solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the development life cycle.
  • Expanding, integrating and updating the data dictionary to account for related applications and make data reporting tailorable for end-users.
  • Proactively making recommendations regarding capacity planning in response to current usage and growth trends.
  • SQL Reporting Services

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years serving as a DBA
  • 5+ years of SQL experience
  • Experience supporting Dynamics 365 preferred
  • Experience in hybrid on-premise/Azure environments strongly preferred.
